| Coordination of metal cation (Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+) (reagent: MCl2) to oxygens in 1,2-hexadecanediol (L) affords ion peaks [L+M2+-H+]+ (A), [L+M2++Cl-]+ (B), [2L+M2+-H2O+Cl-]+ (C), [2L+M2++Cl-]+ (D) in positive ion fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. The plausible structures suggest that the divalent metal ions coordinate to two to four oxygens. The metal cation Fe3+ is reduced to Fe2+, which forms the ion peaks B, C, and D. | ||
