In mass spectrometry, electrospray ionization (ESI) method made it possible to measure the molecular weight of biopolymer accurately by producing multiply charged ions of the target molecule from the solution phase. Moreover, due to the softness of this method, the molecular weight of aggregates formed by noncovalent interactions can be measured. This article explains the applicability of ESI method to measurement of the micelle weight and the method of analysis of observed results.

Key words: Electrospray ionization, ESI, Molecular aggregates, Micelle weight, Octyltrimethylammonium bromide
